A medical doctor, who was abducted in Juja and held for a Ksh 3 million ransom, has been rescued following a joint operation by police and members of the public.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the victim, Emmanuel Kerich, was with friends at Juja City Mall when three-armed men handcuffed him and forced him into a Subaru Forester.
Police said the suspects drove the victim through several locations, where they allegedly tortured him while demanding a Ksh 3 million ransom before heading towards Athi River.
Acting on intelligence, officers from Athi River Police Station intercepted the vehicle along the Mavemba–Mugoya Road.
Two suspects escaped, while one was caught by members of the public before police rescued him from mob justice and took him to hospital, where he remains under police guard.
The doctor was rescued unharmed.
Police also recovered a pair of handcuffs believed to have been used during the abduction, while the Subaru Forester was impounded as an exhibit.
Detectives are searching for the two suspects who are still on the run as investigations continue.
