President William Ruto has officially commissioned the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) power project in Matinyani, Kitui County, marking a major milestone in the region’s energy infrastructure.
The commissioning of the 132-kilovolt Kitui Sub-Station completes a critical link between Garissa and Sultan Hamud, paving the way for more reliable electricity supply to over 40,000 people.
The 66-kilometre transmission project is expected to strengthen power connectivity, support the adoption of clean energy and unlock new opportunities for agribusiness and economic growth in the region.
The investment is also expected to improve access to reliable electricity for households, businesses and other essential services, boosting development across Kitui County and neighbouring areas.
