President William Ruto is expected to address the nation Thursday July 30th at 7.00PM in a speech that State House says will focus on Kenya’s future and a renewed national vision.
In a message released through a short video ahead of the address, State House said the President will challenge Kenyans to embrace a bold vision for the country, arguing that nations transform their fortunes by setting ambitious goals and working together to achieve them.
The message says Kenya’s future will depend not on where the country started or where it stands today, but on the choices its people make now.
State House also notes that countries which were once poor have managed to transform their economies within a generation through unity, determination and long-term planning. It warns that nations which fail to keep moving forward risk falling behind, while calling on Kenyans to take responsibility for shaping the country’s future in line with the Constitution.
Although no detailed agenda has been released, the Presidency says the address will centre on Kenya’s long-term development and the country’s next chapter. The speech comes as the government continues discussions on a new development blueprint expected to succeed Vision 2030 and guide Kenya’s journey towards higher-income status.
The address comes just months before the 2027 General Election, where President William Ruto is expected to seek a second and final term in office.
It also comes at a time when Kenya’s political landscape appears to be shifting. The recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election dealt a major blow to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), raising fresh questions about the party’s political strength. At the same time, voting patterns in the Mt. Kenya region, long considered a key support base for President Ruto, continue to show signs of change.
Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his nationwide campaign to unseat President Ruto, positioning himself as one of the leading figures in the opposition ahead of the 2027 race.
Against this backdrop, attention is now turning to the President’s address. Will it remain focused on development and Kenya’s future, as State House has indicated, or will politics inevitably find its way into the speech?
