Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday April 3, 2024 released dates for party grassroots elections.

Setting dates for party elections was part of the resolutions of the ODM Central Management Committee meeting on April 3.

“The committee has resolved to kick off the Party grassroots elections on the 27th of April 2024.

“The exercise shall be staggered as follows; 27th April Kwale, Busia and Siaya Counties

29th April Kajiado, Migori, Wajir

30th April Kisii, Vihiga, Muranga

A further timetable covering the next batch of counties shall be released in due course,” read part of the ODM statement.

At the same time, the ODM committee that was chaired by Raila, encouraged members to pursue their ambitions by vying for the positions with a sense of responsibility to strengthen but not weaken the party.

Meanwhile, the party encouraged young men and women to vie for various positions in the upcoming party elections.

“We therefore agreed not to allow election activities to be the source of divisions or cause cracks in ODM. The elections must be seen as a friendly match and not a do or die,” noted ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna.

At the same time, the Committee expressed deep concerns over developments in UDA, where public officers, paid by taxpayers, have been appointed as party officials.

The Committee maintained that it was wrong for UDA to use public officers in managing its party elections, adding that it is a recipe for chaos and dictatorship in the management of public affairs.

“Consequently, we demand that all those people who have been named as UDA officials must immediately resign from public service,” ODM noted.
