A suspect linked to a series of robberies targeting people who had just withdrawn cash from banks has been arrested in Embakasi, Nairobi County.
This is after detectives from the Operation Action Team and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau tracked him down following weeks of intelligence gathering and forensic analysis.
The suspect, Muia Mutune, also known as Fredrick Mbuta, and his associates allegedly posed as traffic officers, using the authority of a uniform to intercept unsuspecting victims moments after they left banks with cash.
For those targeted, what should have been a routine trip home after a bank visit turned into a frightening encounter with criminals hiding behind a badge.
Mutune is not a first-time offender in this regard, he had been arrested in April 2026 for similar cases before being released on bond in July.
Detectives kept following the leads until intelligence placed him in Embakasi Village, where he was subsequently arrested.
He is currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of arraignment as detectives intensify efforts to track down his alleged accomplices, who remain at large.
