Rescuers searching through the ruins of a collapsed building in Eastleigh have recovered three more bodies, nearly two weeks after the tragic incident.

Authorities confirmed that two bodies were retrieved late Wednesday night, November 4, while a third was recovered on Thursday, November 5.

Emergency teams are continuing search and retrieval operations as the exercise enters its 14th day. Families have been camping near the site, anxiously awaiting news about their missing loved ones.

According to police, the first two victims an unidentified male and an unidentified female were recovered in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Both bodies were in advanced stages of decomposition. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel processed and documented the scene before the remains were transferred to the City Mortuary for post-mortem examinations and identification.

Authorities have advised families who suspect their missing relatives may be among the victims to report to the City Mortuary for identification and DNA profiling.

In the wake of the building collapse, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja called for legal reforms to grant county governments stronger enforcement powers against non-compliant developers.

“We have formally written to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and we hope our request will be considered. Counties must be empowered to take firm action against rogue developers who disregard building regulations and put lives at risk,” Sakaja said.

However, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) clarified that the Nairobi City County Government has not yet forwarded any inquiry file to the ODPP regarding alleged malpractices by the developer, construction professionals, or county officials associated with the project.
