A sombre mood has engulfed Ilesi village in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County, after a 25-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her brother-in-law on Thursday, September 24.

The deceased, Patience Penenzi, met her death when she was attacked by Desmond Kirishi, a brother to her husband, while taking her four-year-old child to school. She was cut severally with a panga, and her child was also injured and is currently admitted at Mukumu Hospital in critical condition.

Residents say the suspect, who is alleged to be a drug addict, has been frustrating his sister-in-law, with whom they have been living in the same compound while her husband is away in Qatar for work.

The Chief of Ilesi location, Ben Mulinya, says the suspect is a person who has been involved in criminal activities and associating with illegal gangs.

The suspect who had initially fled after the incident was arrested by police officers who managed to rescue him from an angry mob in Kakamega Town.
