Kenya’s youth have been urged to make use of digital communication platforms to drive positive climate action and environmental conservation.

Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) during the launch of the Youth Climate Policy and Advocacy Training program, the Spouse of the Deputy President, Dr. Joyce Kithure, highlighted that young people possess unparalleled digital skills.

She challenged them to use this prowess to spread important environmental awareness. Dr. Joyce emphasized that the youth have the greatest interest in the future, noting that they will live long enough to either enjoy the fruits of a well protected planet or suffer the consequences of its neglect.

Also addressing the forum, Gorfly Mokua, the Founder and Director of the Africa Youth Care Group (AYCG) – the organization behind the training initiative – lauded Dr. Joyce for her commitment to promoting environmental sustainability through her SaVE Community Initiative.

From an academic and scientific perspective, Prof. David Kariuki, Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Nairobi, stressed the importance of embracing scientific innovation and new discoveries to mitigate climate change.

Echoing these remarks, the CEO of the National Research Fund (NRF), Prof. Dickson Andala, called on the youth to actively utilize government institutions like his. He encouraged them to seek strategic support for programs dedicated to climate change mitigation.
