CUE clarifies recognized universities
The Commission has listed 79 institutions legally authorized to operate within Kenya, including public and private universities.
These institutions include private university constituent colleges and universities with letters of interim authority.
Warning against illegal institutions
CUE has warned that any university not on the approved list is operating illegally and will not issue recognized degrees.
“Any institution not appearing on the official list is illegal, and its qualifications will not be recognized,” the notice stated.
The announcement follows a recent crackdown on illegal institutions, leading to arrests and degree cancellations.
Crackdown on fake degrees
The notice comes after police officers and CUE officials raided Northwestern Christian University’s graduation ceremony in Mombasa.
Authorities found that the institution was operating without accreditation, prompting immediate action against its officials.
Following the raid, over 100 degrees issued by the university were declared invalid by the Commission.
CUE re-affirms its mandate
CUE Chairperson Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti emphasized the Commission’s commitment to shutting down illegal institutions across Kenya.
“If we find institutions parading fake degrees, we have a responsibility to stop this violation of education laws,” he stated firmly.
The Commission continues monitoring institutions nationwide, ensuring that only accredited universities operate legally in Kenya.
