A 24-year-old man has been arrested after he was busted trying to sneak bhang to a remandee at Kitui Police Station.

In a daring scheme, Dickens Tito tried to sneak 61 rolls of bhang and 33 matchsticks hidden within a parcel of rice meant for the inmate.

However, hawk-eyed police officers on duty foiled Tito’s planafter the peeled back the rice to expose illegal substance disguised as a meal to the inmate. He was arrested on the spot and hauled into custody.

Meanwhile, police have also arrested another 29-year-old suspect who was caught ferrying bhang along the Thika–Garissa Highway at Kanyonyoo.

A multi-agency security team manning a roadblock flagged down a Public Service Vehicle travelling from Kitui to Embu, and a routine luggage check led to the discovery of 13 bales of cannabis sativa, tightly wrapped in yellow sealing tape, inside a pink briefcase belonging to Justice Kabila Njanja.

Both suspects remain in custody as investigations proceed towards arraignment, while the seized narcotics have been detained as exhibits.
