A 60-year-old man has been arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the alleged fraudulent acquisition of land titles for three high-value properties in Nairobi.
In a statement shared on its official X account, the DCI said David Ndegwa Mwangi was apprehended by officers from the Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) over claims that he unlawfully procured title deeds for prime plots located in Countryside Villa Estate along Muthaiga Drive. Each parcel is estimated to be worth Sh45 million.
According to investigators, the case emerged after the legitimate owner reported attempts by Mwangi and his accomplices, who are still at large, to seize control of the properties.
“The rightful owner reported that Mwangi and his accomplices attempted to forcefully claim the properties,” the DCI stated.
“Shockingly, the suspects even visited the land, asserting fake ownership despite the complainant holding genuine, authentic title documents.”
Detectives launched a probe into the allegations, gathering evidence that pointed to a coordinated scheme to fraudulently obtain land ownership documents. The findings were later forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review.
“Upon perusal, the ODPP directed that charges be preferred against Mwangi and his accomplices for fraudulent procurement of title,” the agency said.
Mwangi is currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment, while efforts to track down his alleged accomplices are ongoing.
The DCI has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding property rights, warning individuals involved in land fraud that they will face legal consequences.
“The DCI remains resolute in protecting the sanctity of property ownership and ensuring that land grabbers and title fraudsters face the full wrath of the law,” the statement added.
