Bobi Wine in trouble for asking citizens to rise against President Museveni

Police have launched investigations into alleged hate speech remarks by National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine

According to the police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the officers are gathering evidence regarding remarks Bobi Wine made while in Luweero District.

“Once the investigations are over, we shall seek the opinion of the director of public prosecutions and inform Ugandans on the way forward,” Enanga told news reporters.

Police launched investigations after Bobi Wine called upon Ugandans to rise up against President Museveni, whom he accused of establishing a dynasty on their ancestors’ land.

“Fellow Baganda, who bewitched you? Museveni thinks he is going to build his dynasty on the land of our ancestors in Buganda. Over my dead body, that will not happen,” said Bobi Wine.

In a video circulating on social media, Bobi Wine claimed that President Museveni was always wasting public resources on celebrating his birthdays.

He also alleged that the president was spending millions of money on preparing his son General Muhoozi to take over the presidency.

According to the Uganda constitution, a person who prints, or makes any utterance which is likely to degrade or promote feelings of hostility against a tribe or group of people is liable to conviction of imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.

Similarly, on August 30, Bobi Wine called on Ugandans to oppose Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s presidential bid.

He criticized Gen. Muhoozi’s political activities in the country, arguing that the president’s son was bribing citizens to get support.

“He now wants to bring his son to inflict the same torture on Ugandans, we must prevent that from happening by getting Museveni out of power,” Bobi Wine stated.
