Gladys Shollei: If you acquired a fake degree to get work, that is a fraud

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei has hinted at an oncoming crackdown on fake degree holders in the civil service.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently brought attention to fake degree holders in the civil service.

The DP hinted that a substantial number of civil servants may possess fake certificates acquired from River Road.

Echoing this sentiment, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei emphasized the urgency of addressing the matter.

DP speaker Shollei advocated for the immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution of individuals in civil service found using counterfeit credentials.

Shollei underscored the gravity of the offense, emphasizing that even if some leaders had received honorary degrees, fake certificates remained a serious criminal offense.

During an interview on Tuesday, April 23, Shollei voiced her support for President William Ruto’s commitment to removing all civil servants who had secured employment through fraudulent means.

Additionally, she stressed that while certain individuals may have been granted honorary degrees in recognition of their contributions to society, this did not excuse the use of fake credentials.

Shollei’s solution for fake degrees

The National Assembly Deputy Speaker proposed stringent verification procedures, suggesting direct communication with universities to validate the authenticity of degrees.

Furthermore, she highlighted the need for universities to establish digital platforms to facilitate easier verification of academic records.

The move will align with the government’s efforts to digitize services for enhanced authenticity verification through QR codes.

Furthermore, Shollei advocated for collaboration with the National Examination Council (NEC) to streamline the verification process.

She went on further, to emphasize the importance of universities confirming student enrollment to employers.

She supported the government’s push to digitize services, including certificates, as it would enable the issuance of certificates with QR codes for easier validation.

In conclusion, Shollei reiterated the severity of the issue, emphasizing the importance of taking action to combat fake certificates among civil servants.
