The Ethics and anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers have arrested and interrogated three directors of Ramagon Construction Company in an ongoing investigation into allegations of conspiracy to defraud Matili Technical Institute in Bungoma County, in a construction tender for Ksh29 million.
In a statement on Thursday May 15, 2025, the Commission noted that they have arrested and interrogated three directors of Ramagon Construction Company—Abdi Barre Abdi, Hassan Barre Abdi, and Nagenye Mohamoud Dahir—for over fifteen hours before releasing them on police bail.
“This is following the ongoing investigation into allegations of conspiracy to defraud Matili Technical Institute in Bungoma County in a construction tender for 29 million which the Commission says was fraudulently inflated to 59 million shillings leading to overpayment for services not rendered,” read part of EACC statement.
According to the Commission, the three directors colluded with senior government officials to manipulate the payment process where Ramagon Construction directors also claimed an extra nine million shillings to the bill, leading to questionable public auction of Matili Institute’s vehicle for student driving training.
The vehicle, initially valued at Ksh5.4 million, was sold for only Ksh1.2 million.
The suspects were arrested in Bungoma town and later transferred to EACC offices in Bungoma and Nairobi for further investigation.
The Commission said that upon completion of the investigation, it will recommend criminal prosecution of the suspects and file a suit for recovery of the public assets.
This situation has left Matili institute in a critical state, with concerns among stakeholders and local leaders about the potential closure of the school.
The Commission has since moved to court seeking to invalidate the claim by Ramagon Construction Company terming it fraudulent and non-existent.
