Caleb Amisi blasts Mbadi over alleged remarks on Odinga family as ODM rift deepens

Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has sharply criticised Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, accusing him of attacking the Odinga family and showing disrespect toward Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga.

In an emotional statement shared on his X account on 12th May 2026, Amisi questioned Mbadi’s conduct and political loyalty, linking his rise in politics to the influence of opposition leader Raila Odinga.

“Kuna kitu imeniuma tangu juzi wacha niseme initoke. Where does CS John Mbadi get the audacity to abuse and attack the sister to Raila Odinga, Ruth Odinga?

A man who helped him win political seats and made him minister in Ruto government?” Amisi posed.

He further accused Mbadi of betrayal and warned of growing discontent within political circles.

“Wonders will never cease! Baba continue resting in peace. You were surrounded by vultures. Kenya needs a renaissance!” he added.

Amisi’s remarks come amid a widening internal dispute within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following an explosive exchange between Mbadi and Ruth Odinga during a party retreat in Mombasa held on May 4, 2026.

In her detailed Facebook statement dated May 10, 2026, Ruth defended the Odinga legacy and accused Mbadi of launching a personal attack during the meeting.

She claimed Mbadi stated that “ODM Party does not belong to the Odingas… and that Raila Odinga was already dead and buried,” remarks she described as offensive and targeted.

Ruth further recounted her political struggles, exile experience, and long association with the Odinga family, insisting that their history was rooted in sacrifice rather than entitlement.

In response, Mbadi dismissed the allegations, saying Ruth had misrepresented his remarks and that the retreat discussions were meant to remain private.

“I’m therefore surprised to see my sister Ruth Adhiambo Odinga distort my speech, something which could have entirely remained in-house,” Mbadi said.

He also maintained that ODM is not tied to any family or community, stating, “This party does not belong to one community… It does not belong to Siaya… It does not belong to a family.”

The exchange has intensified debate within ODM, exposing emerging divisions over leadership, legacy, and the party’s future direction.
