Call for mental health awareness as stress levels rise among teachers, security officers

Concern has been raised over the increasing levels of stress, depression and health complications affecting teachers and security officers across the country.

Speaking during a health seminar held at Koriema in Baringo County, Baringo Police Commandant Macharia Wanjau said many security officers continue to struggle with mental health challenges, work pressure and lifestyle-related illnesses, calling for regular counselling and medical checkups within the service.

KESSHA Baringo Chairman Fredrick Cheboiwo noted that teachers are increasingly facing emotional strain, stress and health complications linked to demanding workloads, economic pressure and family responsibilities.

Baringo AP Commandant David Ngetich urged teachers and security officers to prioritize both mental and physical health by seeking professional help, attending regular medical screenings and adopting healthy lifestyles.

The seminar, organized by Tophil Hospital, focused on mental wellness, stress management, nutrition, lifestyle diseases, counselling and suicide prevention.

Tophil Hospital CEO Dr. F Koech said cases of depression, anxiety, hypertension, diabetes and other health conditions are on the rise among professionals, emphasizing the need for early diagnosis, awareness and preventive healthcare.
