The Kibera Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest against former National Economic Development Party (NEDP) Executive Director Daniel Mokua Onsomu after he repeatedly failed to appear in court to answer fraud-related charges involving more than Sh2 million.
The court took the action after Onsomu missed several scheduled appearances, including mentions on June 11 and June 24, 2026, prompting concerns over his continued absence from the proceedings.
Onsomu is facing charges of obtaining Sh2.05 million by false pretences from businessman Daniel Nyakundi Osiemo between September 8 and October 6, 2022.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly received the money while claiming he could facilitate access to information concerning a parcel of land.
Prosecutors argue that the representation was knowingly false and was used to induce the complainant to part with the funds.
During the latest court mention on June 24, Onsomu was again absent. His lawyer, Mose Nyambega, sought an adjournment through a letter dated June 22, explaining that he had suffered a knee injury following an accident and was therefore unable to attend court or effectively handle the matter.
Despite the explanation, the court ordered the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Lang’ata Police Station to trace, arrest and present Onsomu before the court at the earliest opportunity.
Onsomu’s name has previously featured in controversies within the NEDP. The party, led by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, had suspended some of its activities amid allegations that certain officials were soliciting money from individuals seeking opportunities within the political outfit.
The case is scheduled for mention on July 23, 2026, when the court is expected to receive an update on efforts by law enforcement officers to locate and apprehend the accused.
