Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have intensified the crackdown on narcotics trafficking following two separate operations that led to the arrest of multiple suspects and the recovery of large quantities of cannabis sativa.
In a statement shared on the DCI’s official X account on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, police said officers from Kapsabet Police Station intercepted a motor vehicle transporting cannabis hidden inside the car.
According to the detectives, the vehicle, registration number KDP 296G, was found carrying sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 283.5 kilograms with an estimated street value of Sh14.1 million.
“The intercepted vehicle, with registration KDP 296G, turned out to be a mobile stash house, revealing carefully hidden sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 283.5 kilograms valued at approximately Sh14,175,000 in the streets,” the statement read.
The suspects, identified as Gabriel Lubasi and Wycliffe Geda, were arrested during the operation and taken to Kapenguria Police Station pending legal action.
In a separate operation along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Transnational Organised Crime Unit intercepted a public service vehicle in Kamirithu, Limuru.
During the search, detectives recovered several bales of cannabis concealed inside backpacks and bags belonging to two passengers.
“Inside, two black backpacks packed to the brim with five bales of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow cello tape were found,” the DCI stated.
Police linked the narcotics to suspects Lydia Arebo Emongoluk and Petronilla Kwamboka, who were immediately arrested and placed in custody as investigations continue.
The National Police Service said the operations demonstrate its continued commitment to dismantling narcotics trafficking networks across the country.
“These operations underscore the National Police Service’s commitment to eradicating narcotics trafficking across Kenya,” the statement added.
