End of an era as NTSA phases out physical logbooks

The government has announced plans to phase out physical motor vehicle logbooks and introduce electronic logbooks in a move aimed at streamlining services at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

According to Director General Eng. Nashon Kondiwa, the eLogbook (electronic logbook), which will officially be launched on June 10, 2026 is expected to transform service delivery.

“We are not only bringing services closer to wananchi by enabling them to access their logbooks electronically, but we are also eliminating bureaucracy and cartels,” Kondiwa said during a media briefing in Kitui on Thursday, May 7 morning.

Some of the key features and benefits of the eLogbook include:

  • Instant issuance directly to a client’s portal without long waiting periods,
  • Enhanced security through digital encryption, making it tamper-proof,
  • Easy access from anywhere, provided users have internet connectivity and can log into their eCitizen account, and
  • Elimination of replacement costs associated with physical logbooks, as users can simply download a copy from the portal whenever needed.

According to NTSA’s Corporate Communication Principal Officer, Mr. Anthony Nyongesa, the Authority has already put in place measures to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.

“Those seeking clarification or any other assistance can do so through our official communication channels, including email at [email protected] or through the NTSA website,” Nyongesa said, adding that the Authority is committed to ensuring motor vehicle owners and the public at large adapt seamlessly to the digital platform.
