Following Thursday night’s heavy downpour, several parts of Nairobi and neighbouring counties are grappling with flash floods, with rising water levels reported along major roads and residential areas.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, water levels have surged along the Mombasa Road (Eastern Bypass), leading to significant flooding in low-lying areas. In Mukuru kwa Njenga, unconfirmed reports indicate missing persons and several households marooned by floodwaters.
Kenya Red Cross Nairobi teams have been deployed and are currently en route to carry out an urgent assessment and possible rescue operations.
Elsewhere in the capital, flash floods were reported near T-Mall along Lang’ata Road, where a vehicle was trapped in a ditch with occupants inside. All individuals were successfully evacuated by responders.
The heavy overnight rains left large parts of Syokimau underwater. Roads submerged and movement was paralyzed.
Mombasa Road also experiences heavy traffic jam after heavy overnight rains flooded several sections. Motorists were stuck at the Cabanas area near JKIA
In Kajiado County, three people who were initially trapped in a lorry after flooding from the swollen Kandisi River along Magadi Road were rescued. Flash floods have also been reported in Moyale, Marsabit County.
The Kenya Red Cross has confirmed it remains on high alert and is on standby for any further search and rescue operations as the situation develops.
Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid flooded areas, and report any emergencies immediately.
