Former Taita Taveta county official charged over KSh8.3M fraudulent imprest claims

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged a former Taita Taveta County Government official over the alleged fraudulent acquisition of more than KSh8.3 million through imprest claims for activities said not to have taken place.

Geffrey Kimonge Mbogo, a former Director of Political Affairs in the county government, was arraigned before the Voi Anti-Corruption Court and charged with fraudulent acquisition of public property and deceiving a principal.

According to the prosecution, Mbogo allegedly obtained KSh8,303,021 from the county government between November 20, 2015, and December 16, 2016, by claiming funds for various activities purportedly conducted in Dubai, Mombasa, Arusha, Nairobi and Taita Taveta.

The DPP further alleges that the accused knowingly applied for imprest warrants amounting to KSh8.3 million for activities he falsely claimed had taken place in the various locations.

Mbogo denied the charges when he appeared in court.

The court released him on a cash bail of KSh1 million or an alternative bond of KSh2 million and scheduled the case for mention on July 1, 2026, for pre-trial directions.
