Mwalimu National DT Sacco and NCBA Bank Kenya have launched a real-time payroll platform that promises to cut salary processing times from hours or even days to minutes, as the two institutions deepen their push into digital financial services.
The platform, dubbed Salo Xpress, was launched on Wednesday at Mwalimu Towers in Nairobi as part of Sacco’s broader digital transformation strategy designed to improve efficiency, transparency and access to funds for members.
The launch comes at a time when organisations are increasingly seeking real-time financial services and faster payroll systems amid growing demand for digital banking solutions.
Speaking during the launch, Mwalimu National DT Sacco National Chairman Joel Gachari said the new platform addresses longstanding frustrations experienced by members whose salaries were often delayed due to manual and legacy processing systems.
“For many years, members would receive their salaries late at night, sometimes as late as 3 a.m. Today we are launching a solution that changes that experience completely,” said Gachari.
Under the new system, salary payments will be credited almost instantly once payroll files are submitted by employers, eliminating delays that previously stretched into hours or even days.
Mwalimu National DT Sacco Chief Executive Officer Kenneth Odhiambo described Salo Xpress as a key milestone in the Sacco’s digital transformation journey.
“Salo Xpress is a response to the changing needs of employers and institutions seeking greater speed, accuracy and visibility in payroll administration. By digitising and streamlining payroll processes, organisations can save time, reduce operational bottlenecks and access real-time information for better decision-making,” he said.
The solution provides organisations with real-time payroll tracking, automated salary processing, detailed reporting and easier reconciliation, giving employers greater visibility over payroll operations.
NCBA Bank Kenya, which partnered with Mwalimu National in developing the platform, said the initiative reflects growing collaboration between banks and Saccos to modernise financial services delivery.
Speaking on behalf of NCBA, Sankul Mandavia, Director of Corporate Banking – Liability Business, said the partnership demonstrates how technology can solve practical operational challenges facing institutions.
“Our partnership with Mwalimu National DT Sacco demonstrates a shared commitment to leveraging technology to solve real business challenges while enhancing efficiency and customer experience,” he said.
The launch marks another milestone for Mwalimu National DT Sacco, one of Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Saccos, which has recently expanded beyond its traditional teacher membership base through new partnerships and digital financial products.
As competition intensifies across Kenya’s financial services sector, Salo Xpress positions Mwalimu National and NCBA at the forefront of the race to deliver faster, real-time financial solutions to employers and employees alike.
For thousands of teachers and workers who have grown accustomed to waiting until midnight, or even the early hours of the morning, for their salaries, payday could soon mean immediate access to money.
