Toyota has officially entered Kenya’s fast-growing electric vehicle market with the launch of the fully electric Toyota bZ4X, marking the Japanese automaker’s first-ever battery electric vehicle in the country.

Launched by CFAO Mobility Kenya in Nairobi on Tuesday, June 16, the bZ4X signals Toyota’s bold shift toward sustainable mobility while maintaining the brand’s long-standing reputation for quality, durability and reliability.

The electric SUV boasts a driving range of up to 516 kilometres on a single charge and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds. It also features all-wheel drive capability, a specialised X-MODE system for slippery terrain, 206mm ground clearance and a 500mm wading depth, positioning it as a vehicle built for both urban roads and rugged conditions.
“The bZ4X represents the next chapter in mobility,” said CFAO Mobility Kenya Managing Director Arvinder Reel during the launch.

“With its zero-emissions, impressive range and standard-setting safety features, this innovative SUV ensures our customers don’t have to choose between cutting-edge electric performance and trusted, durable engineering.”
The vehicle supports 150kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes. Toyota is also offering an eight-year or 120,000-kilometre battery warranty.

The launch comes at a time when Kenya’s electric vehicle market is experiencing rapid growth, with EV registrations surpassing 35,000 by 2025.
CFAO Mobility Kenya Deputy Managing Director Joshua Anya said the launch aligns with Toyota’s broader environmental strategy.

“The Toyota bZ4X takes a step in Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy towards carbon neutrality, delivering a vehicle that provides value well beyond zero emissions,” he said.
Built on Toyota’s dedicated e-TNGA electric platform, the SUV combines a low centre of gravity, high body rigidity and advanced safety technology under Toyota Safety Sense, including lane trace assist, pre-collision systems and safe exit assist.
CFAO said the vehicle will be backed by its nationwide aftersales network of 43 branches and service centres, with technicians trained to handle electric vehicle maintenance and support.
The bZ4X now joins a growing list of electric vehicles competing for a share of Kenya’s expanding clean mobility market.
