Four arrested as police recover over 150 bullets, military gear from a lorry in Isiolo

Authorities in Isiolo have intercepted a significant cache of ammunition and military gear during a late-night operation at a police roadblock.

The discovery, made at 1:30 a.m. at the Hospital Junction along the Marsabit-Isiolo Road, led to the arrest of four suspects and the detention of a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry, registration number KCY 271N.

Officers flagged down the vehicle for a routine inspection but uncovered a concealed brown bag containing military supplies and ammunition.

Among the items seized were 142 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition, commonly used in AK-47 rifles, and 16 rounds of 9mm ammunition, often used in pistols.

Additional items included a rifle cleaning kit, two pairs of military boots, a ground sheet, a military camelbak, and tactical combat clothing such as trousers and shirts.

The suspects, identified as Arako Abdullahi (driver), Ali Hussein, 28, Udheifa Yusuf Garre, 20, and Khalid Abdi Rashid Garre, 18, were immediately taken into custody.

Both the individuals and the vehicle are being held at Isiolo Police Station as investigations continue.

The operation has drawn the attention of a multi-agency team that is interrogating the suspects to uncover the source and intended destination of the military gear and ammunition.

The interception raises concerns about illegal arms trafficking and potential threats to national security in the region.

Law enforcement agencies have intensified surveillance along the Marsabit-Isiolo route, known for its strategic significance in connecting northern Kenya to other parts of the country.

Authorities have called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb the proliferation of illegal.
