Four arrested for vandalising three transformers in Kitui

Four suspects have been arrested in Kitui town after being found in possession of copper winding and tools associated with transformer vandalism, following a joint operation by Kenya Power security personnel and DCI officers on September 16, 2026.

Douglas Kyalo Mbuvi, Joseph Mulei Musovo, Benson Muchiri Kaburia, and Peter Musyimi Keli were stopped while travelling in a motor vehicle with concealed number plates.

A search of the vehicle yielded one drum of copper winding alongside assorted spanners, a hacksaw, a panga, and a hammer, among other items.

The suspects subsequently led the team to two locations where they had carried out the vandalism, Kamuungu Primary School, where a 35KVA transformer had been vandalised, and Kangweni Village, where a 200KVA and a 100KVA transformer had also been targeted.

All four suspects have been booked at Kitui Police Station and their vehicle detained in the station yard pending further action.
