Four suspects have been arrested in Nairobi over an employment fraud scheme that targeted job seekers with false promises of securing them positions in the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Detectives from DCI Central, Nairobi, launched investigations after a victim reported losing KSh600,000 to the syndicate, having been convinced that the suspects could get her a job at the NIS.
To make the scam appear credible, the suspects allegedly issued her with a fake NIS calling letter suggesting she had been successfully recruited into the agency.
Following intelligence-led investigations, detectives tracked down and arrested Patrick Kibor, Moses Tarus Kibor, Humphrey Ngeiywo Kutuli, and Abraham Kimeli.
Several documents believed to be linked to the fraudulent scheme were recovered at the time of arrest and are currently undergoing forensic examination to determine their authenticity and establish the full extent of the syndicate’s operations.
The four suspects are currently in custody awaiting arraignment.
The DCI used the arrests to remind members of the public that recruitment into government agencies follows established official procedures and does not require any form of payment at any stage.
Anyone approached with promises of a government job in exchange for money has been urged to treat it as a scam and report the matter to the nearest police station immediately.
