Police in Elburgon have arrested a suspected gang leader believed to be behind weeks of insecurity in Kasarani and Salama areas, where residents had reported a surge in theft, intimidation, and break-ins linked to the “Mungu Leta” gang.
According to a statement posted by the National Police Service on its official X account on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the arrest followed a targeted operation by officers based at Elburgon Police Station.
Residents had reportedly lived in fear as the gang allegedly disrupted normal life, targeting homes and businesses in the area. The situation changed after police launched an operation that led to the capture of the suspected ringleader.
“Under arrest, the suspect led officers to a house in the Salama area, where they uncovered a cache of stolen property and proceeds from the gang’s operations,” the police said.
A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of a wide range of suspected stolen items, including three pairs of military boots, seven KPLC token machines, mobile phones, solar panels, television sets, and computer monitors.
Officers also recovered national identity cards, gas cylinders, iron boxes, a DSTV decoder, a motorcycle rim, and various weapons, including pangas, hammers, and Maasai rungus, which are believed to have been used during the gang’s activities.
“All recovered items have since been securely labelled and preserved at the station as exhibits,” the statement added.
A second suspect was also arrested during the operation, and both individuals are expected to be arraigned in court.
The National Police Service further stated that operations are ongoing to dismantle the wider network behind the gang, vowing to restore safety in the affected areas.
“The National Police Service will continue to pursue all those connected to the gang,” the statement read, signalling a continued crackdown on organised criminal groups in the region.
