A fierce political storm is brewing in Machakos regarding who will fly the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) Party ticket in the county’s 2027 gubernatorial race.
A war of words among legislators within the county is now threatening the unity of the Kalonzo Musyoka-led party, with Mavoko MP Patrick Makau’s sentiments last week sparking a rise in political temperatures.
Speaking in Athi River Town while issuing bursary cheques on April 21, 2026, MP Makau accused Kalonzo of stiffling party democracy by showing open favouritism towards Governor Wavinya Ndeti.
And with just about 15 months to the 2027 General Election, the lawmaker who has declared his bid for Machakos Governor’s seat warned Kalonzo against awarding direct ticket to the incumbent governor.
He further alleged that there was a pact power sharing pact between him, Kalonzo and Wavinya that the latter will serve for one term, then they will support him to clinch the seat.
“Honourable party leader, I am running as Wiper governor for Machakos in 2027, and I have supporters. Even though you reneged on your promise for Wavinya to go for one term, let her face me in party primaries,” Makau said, althought Wavinya has denied ever entering into such an agreement.
It is these statements by Makau that are now threatening the unity of Wiper Party within Machakos.
Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has strongly slammed Makau, telling him to respect the party leader.
According to Mwangangi, Makau is disrespecting Kalonzo by forcing him to hand over the Machakos gubernatorial ticket to him directly.
For some time now, Makau and Wavinya have been at loggerheads over who will be given the party’s gubernatorial ticket in 2027.
