The East Africa Superwoman Awards brought together distinguished women leaders from government, business, education, civil society, and community organizations in a celebration of excellence, resilience, inclusivity, and transformative leadership under the theme Breaking the Glass Ceiling and Leading Ahead.
The event recognized women who continue to break barriers in leadership, inspire positive change, and champion progress in their respective fields while paving the way for future generations of women and girls.
Among those honoured during the ceremony was the Director General of Immigration Evelyne Cheluget, who dedicated her award to officers and staff within the Immigration Department, saying the recognition reflected the institution’s collective commitment to public service and national duty.
The Director General praised immigration officers for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication in ensuring efficient service delivery, safeguarding national security, and facilitating movement across the country.
She noted that the recognition should motivate more women in leadership to continue pushing boundaries, overcoming challenges, and creating opportunities for others to rise and succeed.
Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of empowering more women to take up leadership positions, noting that breaking the glass ceiling requires courage, consistency, determination, and strong support systems that uplift women at every stage of their journey.
Education emerged as one of the key issues discussed, with participants calling for increased investment in girls’ education and mentorship programs to prepare young women for leadership and economic empowerment.
The role of women in business was also highlighted, with speakers applauding female entrepreneurs and professionals for driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to national development despite challenges in the corporate and business environment.
The forum further underscored the need for women to empower one another through mentorship, networking, advocacy, and collaboration aimed at creating inclusive spaces for growth and opportunity.
Women in the education sector were recognized for shaping future generations and promoting values of equality, innovation, and inclusivity in learning institutions, while community leaders were commended for championing social impact initiatives that support vulnerable groups, women, and young people.
The awards ceremony ultimately celebrated women who continue to redefine leadership, break societal barriers, and transform communities through impactful service, innovation, and visionary leadership across East Africa.
