Woman stabbed to death by boyfriend outside Kilimani pharmacy after leaving work

A young woman, 25-years-old, was stabbed to death by her boyfriend in broad daylight along Kirichwa Road in Kilimani on Thursday evening, May 14, 2026.

This was in a brutal attack captured on CCTV footage that has since circulated widely and left many Kenyans shaken.

The suspect, identified as Newton Ambayi, ambushed the victim shortly after the two left their shared workplace along Ngong Road at around 6:00 pm.

The footage shows the victim desperately trying to flee as Newton pursues her, stabbing her repeatedly in the neck and face in full view of bystanders and narrowly avoiding a passing car in the process.

The victim ran towards a nearby pharmacy in what appeared to be a last attempt to find safety, but Newton followed and continued the attack. Within less than a minute, blood stained the pavement.

Newton then walked away calmly as the victim staggered before collapsing and dying outside the pharmacy.

Witnesses say that as a crowd began to gather, Newton changed tactics, pretending to collapse beside the victim and clutching her as though he had also been injured, in what appeared to be an attempt to avoid mob justice.

When police arrived and rushed him to hospital, medics found no wounds on him. They established that the blood on his clothes belonged entirely to the victim.

The two had been in a troubled relationship.

The victim had previously left the company due to harassment and relationship issues, but returned to the same workplace on May 13.

A supervisor had urged them to set aside their differences and focus on work. The very next day, she was dead.

Newton is currently in custody at Kilimani Police Station as detectives recover the murder weapon for forensic analysis.

He is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday and the victim’s body is at City Mortuary in Nairobi.

The killing has once again drawn attention to the devastating scale of femicide in Kenya.

More than 500 women are killed annually in the country, with intimate partners responsible for over 60 per cent of those deaths.

Majority of victims are young women aged between 18 and 34.

Civil society groups warn that the true figures are likely far higher due to underreporting and gaps in the justice system.
