June 23, 2026 – All is set for Kenya’s national commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADA), scheduled for Friday, June 26, 2026, at the NACADA Miritini Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Mombasa.
This year’s global theme, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,” strikes a timely chord as Kenya confronts evolving substance abuse trends while doubling down on creative, community-driven interventions.

The upcoming event will be officiated by high-profile dignitaries from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, joined by senior officials from the Mombasa County Government. Expected attendees include National Government Administration Officers (NGAO), Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), individuals in recovery, youth representatives, and the general public—reflecting a multi-sectoral approach to the drug menace.
Among the anticipated highlights are high-level addresses on national drug control policy, public sensitization on emerging synthetic substances, and a showcase of innovative rehabilitation models being piloted at the Miritini facility.
Notably, NACADA has expanded its women’s recovery services at the centre, which are free of charge, reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive, barrier-free treatment access.
This commemoration comes at a critical juncture, as Kenya intensifies efforts to balance law enforcement with public health-centric responses.
The Miritini event is expected to reaffirm the country’s resolve to foster partnerships, embrace technology-driven prevention, and scale up evidence-based treatment—all in pursuit of a resilient, drug-free society.
As the nation prepares to mark this important day, all eyes will be on Mombasa for what promises to be a landmark moment in Kenya’s ongoing fight against substance abuse.
