Three suspects have been arrested after police recovered nearly 781 kilograms of cannabis sativa during an intelligence-led operation in Busia Township.
According to a statement posted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Saturday, August 8, 2026, the operation intercepted a consignment of cannabis sativa worth millions following a tip-off from members of the public concerning suspected drug trafficking activities in the Mabale area.
A joint team of law enforcement officers based in Busia Sub-County raided a residential house where they discovered a large quantity of cannabis concealed inside the premises.
According to the DCI, officers recovered 15 large gunny bags containing the suspected narcotic. The consignment weighed 780.95 kilograms and has an estimated street value of Sh23,428,500.
Three individuals identified as Patrick Wandera Khasali, Simon Ogola Khasali and Dorine Glara Adongo were arrested during the operation and remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The suspects are being investigated by detectives attached to the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Busia, who are seeking to establish where the drugs originated, their intended destination and whether other individuals are involved in the alleged trafficking network.
The DCI described the operation as a coordinated effort based on intelligence provided by members of the public, highlighting the role of community information in helping law enforcement agencies disrupt the movement of illegal drugs.
The agency said investigations would continue as detectives work to uncover the wider network behind the consignment.
The DCI also encouraged members of the public to continue sharing information about suspected criminal activities through its reporting channels.
