Keranta on jaba video controversy: ‘Kila mtu na starehe zake, msinikule kichwa’

Content creator and online sensation Keranta has broken her silence following a viral video that showed her dancing to rumba and allegedly chewing jaba (miraa) at Habanos, a popular Nairobi lounge.

The video, captioned “Wacha tusakate rumba ndani ya Habanos”, quickly made rounds on social media, sparking heated debate.

In the clip, Keranta is seen having fun with friends, but it was her chewing jaba that caught netizens’ attention, some cheering her on, others questioning her image as a content creator.

The video even prompted speculation about a possible pregnancy, though no official statement has been made in that regard.

In true Keranta fashion, she took to her Instagram stories to address the online noise with a blunt message:

“Kila mtu na starehe zake, msinikule kichwa.”
(A direct Swahili phrase meaning, “Everyone has their own way of enjoying life, don’t come for me.”)

Her unapologetic response was met with mixed reactions. While critics continued to question her behavior, several creators and fans came to her defense.

Among them was Yvonne Magaya, who posted a video saying:

“I’m hearing you guys are coming for Keranta. Eti mabaddie hawafai kula jaba? Go to Mombasa and see wealthy ladies taking jaba. Anyways, mimi naye jaba for life.”

Keranta, who had just traveled to Mombasa, responded playfully:

“Ndo nimekuja Mombasa nione hao wealthy ladies, niwajoin kesho asubuhi na mapema.”

Despite the criticism, Keranta remains unbothered, reminding everyone that authenticity over approval is her brand.
