Gospel artist Mercy Masika faced backlash after she announced that she will be having a masterclass ‘‘Becoming a Wife’. This sparked mixed reactions online with some raising questions on why women are being taught how to become better wives while men are not taught the same.

The debate gained traction from online users after the singer shared the post on her social media platforms showcasing the role of mentorship in her marriage and announcing that Lady Bishop Kathy Kiuna will be a guest at the meeting which she had organized.

“I’ve been blessed with amazing mentors in my marriage journey, and Lady Bishop has been such a powerful example of an empowered woman who honors God and her husband,” Masika wrote.

“I’m so glad she’s part of these classes, empowering women who want to do marriage God’s way. Grateful for wisdom that shapes both heart and mindset,” she added.

The post attracted criticism from social media users who raised questions on giving lessons on marriage to women while men are not trained on being good husbands .

Media personality Janet Mbugua gave her comments on the matter and questioned the timing and the focus of the masterclass. She argued that the intiative was out of touch with whatever that is happening to women in the country .Issues such as femicide, children safety and sexual violence.

“The outrage speaks to the fact that we have so much on our minds. We have a lot of worry about our safety and the safety of so many others,” Mbugua said in a video shared online.

She also raised questions on why religious institutions have not spoken up on the issues currently affecting women in the country. She also challenged why women were only being trained on how to become better wives while they are no similar progammes for men.
