Police in Thika, Kiambu County, have recovered dozens of military camouflage uniforms during a security operation in the sprawling slums of Kiandutu.

During the intelligence-led operation that targeted wanted criminals and other illegal activities in Thika Town, officers recovered assorted military camouflage combat uniforms from a business premises in Kiandutu.

According to Thika Sub-County Police Commander John Kimanthi, the uniforms are suspected to have been used by criminals while carrying out illegal activities.

Kimanthi who addressed journalists at Thika Police Station said the owner of the premises fled upon noticing the presence of security officers, noting that investigations have since been launched to establish the source of the uniforms and to apprehend the suspect.

He said the use, sale or possession of military uniforms by unauthorised persons is illegal and warned members of the public against engaging in such activities.

A total of 26 camouflage trousers and 37 camouflage shirts were seized during the operation and have been secured as exhibits pending further investigations.
