KSh1.8M Gov’t fertiliser nabbed at a shop in Matisi was destined for neighbouring country – DCI

It is now emerging that the over 700 bags of Government Subsidized Fertiliser seized at a shop in Matisi, Trans Nzoia County, were destined for a neighbouring country.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the fertilizer — valued at KSh1,847,500 — was being prepared to be transported to a neighbouring country. Matisi is close to the border of Kenya and Uganda to the West.

But under unclear circumstances, the DCI says that during the raid, its officers also recovered delivery notes from National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots.

The delivery notes — whose authentication DCI says is underway — were from the Kitale, Malaba, Moi’s Bridge, Isiolo and Maua depots.

During the raid, conducted by DCI’s Operations Support Unit (OSU) at Baraka Shop, three suspects were arrested.

The suspect arrested include; Ali Abdi Fatah (41 years), Abdi Jabar Hussein (19 years), and 53-year-old Boniface Awili.

During the raid, the following subsidized fertilizers were recovered;

FOMI OTESHA (26 bags), Falcon CAN 26% (424 bags), OCP NPSP (20 bags), Simba UREA (34 bags), Mavuno Top Dress (98 bags), and NPK 10:26:0 (70 bags).

Also recovered was Falcon Ammonium Sulphate (16 bags), Tupande CAN (43 bags), Nafaka (1 bag), DAP OCP (3 bags).
