Police officers in Marsabit Central have arrested a high-profile suspect believed to be behind a string of serious criminal activities, including stock theft and murder in Marsabit County.
The National Police Service (NPS), in a statement, says the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation carried out by security officers in the area.
The police said the suspect attempted to fight off arrest when officers moved in, forcing them to act swiftly to neutralize the threat.
“During the operation, the suspect attempted to resist arrest by wielding a dagger concealed at his waistline. However, he was quickly overpowered and subdued by the officers,” NPS said in the statement.
Authorities recovered the dagger used during the confrontation, alongside a mobile phone believed to be of investigative value. Both items were confiscated and secured as part of ongoing investigations.
“The dagger, together with a mobile phone, was confiscated and securely kept for further forensic analysis,” the statement added.
Police later escorted the suspect to a local station, where he remains in custody pending processing and arraignment in court.
The arrest is being viewed as a significant breakthrough in efforts by security agencies to tackle criminal networks linked to violent offenses and livestock theft, a challenge that has continued to affect communities in parts of northern Kenya.
The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to pursuing criminal elements and enhancing public safety across the country.
“The National Police Service remains committed to ensuring the security and safety of the public and warns that those engaging in crime will be met with the full force of the law,” NPS stated.
Residents in Marsabit have in recent years raised concerns over insecurity linked to organized criminal gangs, cattle rustling and violent attacks.
Security agencies have since intensified intelligence gathering and targeted operations aimed at dismantling such networks.
The latest arrest is expected to aid investigators as they seek to uncover possible links to other crimes and bring those responsible to justice.
