Mwalimu National DT SACCO launched its inaugural Sustainability Report, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable growth, transparency, and responsible business practices.

The event was presided over by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Cooperatives, Patrick Kilemi, who commended the Society for integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into its operations.

“Sustainability is increasingly becoming a key pillar of resilient and competitive institutions. I commend Mwalimu National DT SACCO for taking a proactive approach to integrating ESG principles into its operations and creating long-term value for its members and the wider community,” said Kilemi.

Mwalimu National DT SACCO National Chairman, Joel Gachari, described the report as a significant milestone in the Society’s journey towards becoming a resilient and future-ready institution.

“Sustainability is a strategic imperative. As a Board, we remain committed to embedding environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sound governance in our decision-making while creating long-term value for our members,” said Gachari.

The report highlights key achievements including the establishment of a Sustainability Department, completion of the Society’s first greenhouse gas inventory, the resolution of 2,384 member complaints, a reduction in the non-performing loan ratio from 8.3 per cent to 2.4 per cent, and the planting of 17,000 trees and mangrove seedlings through various conservation partnerships.

Mwalimu National DT SACCO CEO, Kenneth Odhiambo, said the report demonstrates the Society’s commitment to integrating sustainability into every aspect of its operations.

“This report reflects a year in which sustainability moved from intention to operation. We view sustainability reporting not merely as a compliance requirement but as a strategic tool for driving innovation, accountability, and long-term growth,” said Odhiambo.
