The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Homa Bay Town MP George Peter Opondo Kaluma over remarks he allegedly made during a political gathering in Homa Bay County on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Kaluma has been directed to appear before the commission on Wednesday, August 19, at 10am to assist with investigations into the remarks.
In the summons dated August 17, the NCIC ordered the MP to appear in person at its offices on the 17th floor of Britam Towers in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
The commission said it is investigating the remarks under Sections 27, 29 and 63C, read together with Section 63E of the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
According to the NCIC, the remarks, which were delivered in Dholuo, allegedly called for action against people perceived to support the rival political camp and warned hotel owners in Homa Bay over accommodating such individuals.
The commission translated part of the remarks as a call to deal with anyone speaking in favour of a one-term presidency, while also directing supporters to identify and report people associated with the opposing side.
The remarks were made a day before the Linda Mwananchi rally held in Homa Bay on Sunday, August 16.
The rally later descended into chaos, with reports of attacks on participants, damaged vehicles and injuries. Police officers were also attacked, with reports indicating that a police officer was among those killed.
The NCIC summons comes with a penal notice warning that failure to appear could lead to the issuance of an arrest warrant and the commencement of criminal or contempt proceedings.
This comes even as police continue investigations into the violence that erupted during the Linda Mwananchi tour of Homa Bay on Sunday, 16 August 2026, where two people were killed; a police officer struck on the head by a stone and a Ugandan woman run over by a vehicle, and dozens more were injured in clashes that also saw multiple vehicles torched and property damaged.
Police have arrested 37 people in connection with the violence that erupted during the Linda Mwananchi.
The National Police Service said the suspects, believed to be members of criminal gangs, were found carrying crude weapons including machetes, ropes, metal rods, knives, rungus, batons and torches.
Police are also hunting for Oliver Jaoko, alias “Olivetti”, who remains at large.
