Machakos County, November 3, 2026 — A meticulously coordinated operation by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug trafficker and the recovery of a significant cache of illicit substances in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County.
The intelligence-driven crackdown, conducted in the early hours of Tuesday morning at approximately 03:01 hours, targeted a homestead in Mbiuni, Machakos County.
During the operation, NACADA officers conducted a thorough search of the premises belonging to a 31-year-old male suspect. The search yielded a substantial seizure of narcotics and packaging materials. The recovered exhibits included 85 brooms of dry plant material suspected to be bhang, alongside hundreds of small brownish rolls containing dry plant substances believed to be narcotic drugs. Specifically, the team confiscated 300 small brownish rolls and another 400 similar rolls containing the suspected narcotics.
Additionally, the haul included 16 nylon papers containing dry plant substance, 73 white top wristler papers, 44 brown wristler papers, and one pair of scissors with a blue handle. The suspect was immediately arrested, and the exhibits were labelled and secured in safe custody. He was subsequently escorted to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) Police Station for further police processing.
Speaking after the successful operation, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa commended the team for their vigilance and swift action. He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to dismantling drug networks across the country.
“This operation demonstrates the effectiveness of collaborative intelligence and the unwavering resolve of the multi-agency security team to rid our communities of harmful substances,” said Dr. Omerikwa. “We are sending a clear message that there is no safe haven for drug peddlers in Kenya. NACADA will continue to work closely with the community to ensure that those who seek to profit from the destruction of our youth face the full force of the law.”
