Police raid residential house, serving as store for bhang in Utawala

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday April 30, 2024 raided a residential house in Utawala, Nairobi that was being used as a store of bhang.

One suspect was arrested during the incident as eight sacks of bhang weighing approximately 130kgs were recovered from the house.

The residential house was identified after DCI launched a security operation on bang traffickers operating a syndicate between Kisii and Migori Counties.

This is after the arrest of Juma Ouma Nisa on Tuesday 23rd April, 2024 with fifty (50) bags of bhang weighing 1624kgs. 

“Today the officers raided a bhang store belonging to Ouma in Utawala on Wednesday 30th April 2024,” read part of the DCI report. 

In the store, six different number plates; KCM 405S, KCU 731U, KBW 062F, KCH 155H, KBP 176S, KBZ 993S were recovered.

Police officers from Gesonso Police Station in Kisii County on Tuesday April 23, 2024 intercepted four vehicles and recovered 50 sacks of bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh37,500,000, at Itierio area, along Migori -Kisii highway. 

During the incident, the police officers were working in collaboration with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit.

One suspect identified as Joseph Nisa Ouma, an occupant of KCR 176 C (Toyota Probox) was also arrested during the incident while in possession of Ksh30, 000 but drivers of three other vehicles escaped.

“Four vehicles impounded during the operation bearing registration plates KCR 176 C, KCQ O81 R,  KBM 645 S and KBX 751 Y are being held by police,” read part of the police report.
