Rising tension in Kibos as armed gang terrorizes residents

Anxiety has gripped residents of Kibos in Kisumu County following a spate of violent robberies allegedly carried out by a gang of three armed men wielding machetes and a pistol.

The attackers are said to have struck at different times of day and night, leaving locals living in fear and demanding urgent intervention from security agencies.

According to eyewitnesses, the gang has been targeting unsuspecting residents, robbing them of mobile phones, vehicle spare parts, and other valuables before fleeing. In one of the latest incidents, a victim sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to a private hospital in Kisumu, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Community members, led by Moses Kidi, voiced their frustration over what they described as repeated harassment by the gang.

“We cannot continue living like prisoners in our own homes. This gang has been tormenting us for months, and we want the police to act swiftly to protect us, our nearby police post has no vehicle for security operations, our leaders should do something.,” said Kidi, reflecting the growing anger among locals.

Residents now want the security department to intensify patrols and apprehend the suspects, warning that the situation could escalate if left unchecked. Many have resorted to heightened vigilance, with some avoiding movement after dark due to fear of being attacked.

Another resident, who requested anonymity, lamented the impact of the robberies on daily life. “We are losing property and peace of mind. People are afraid to go about their businesses freely. If this continues, it will cripple the local economy and erode trust in law enforcement,” he said.

Security officials confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to track down the suspects. Kisumu County security authorities stated that investigations are ongoing to establish the identities of those behind the attacks and to ensure they are brought to justice.

As the manhunt continues, locals remain hopeful that swift action will end the reign of terror and restore normalcy in Kibos
