President Ruto appoints former MP as diplomat despite rejecting offer

President William Ruto has appointed former North Mugirango MP Vincent Mogaka Kemosi as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana despite rejecting the offer.

Kemosi’s appointment was enforced in a Gazette notice dated May 3, 2024 signed by the Head of State.

The former Member of Parliament was nominated for the position by Ruto but declined to appear at the National Assembly for vetting.

In a letter addressed to Nelson Koech, Chair of the Defense Committee, Kemosi attributed the decline to personal reasons.

“I wish to inform you that I will not appear before the said Committee at the time and the venue specified for a formal hearing.

“This has been occasioned by my personal and compelling family matters which after taking into consideration do not allow me to take up the position as the High Commissioner to Ghana as nominated by President on March 9, 2024,” read part of the letter.

The former lawmaker concluded by serving notice that he would not make an appearance for vetting.

“Therefore to save the precious time of this important Parliamentary business and as per the provision of the Act aforementioned kindly note and this letter serves as notice not to appear. I thank you for your invitation,” he added.

It however appears that he reversed his decision as President William Ruto went on to appoint him to the position.
