ODM Party Leader Dr. Oburu Oginga is in the United Kingdom (U.K) to undergo what he says is a “thorough, routine” medical check-up.
In a statement seen by TV47 Digital on Thursday, September 10, Oburu, who is also the Siaya County Senator, said the visit to the U.K follows the direct advoce of both his doctors and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leadership.
The visit, Oburu says, will also ensure a comprehensive evaluation of his health, while allowing him a dedicated period of rest and rejuvenation.
“As I attend to these personal health routine checks, that naturally come with advancing years, I view taking this step back as a deliberate, strategic moment for our movement,” he says. “This is a time of transition, where the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is being tested on its readiness and preparedness on institutionalism. I welcome this test. A true voice of the people and a mature political movement must be anchored upon strong, resilient structures that outlast us all.”
Oburu, however, insists that the ODM Party possesses the internal mechanisms, the democratic maturity, and the systems to handle day to day activities seamlessly even in his absence.
Consequently, and to ensure that the party’s nation-wide activities continue without interruption, Deputy Party Leaders (Kisii Governor Simba Arati and his Mombasa counterpart Abdulswamad Nassir), working hand in hand with the National Central Committee and secretariat will now take charge.
“As an elder who has walked this long journey with you, I have absolute faith in their collective leadership, discipline, and vision to steer our movement effectively. I urge all party members, officials, and the millions of Kenyans who look to us for leadership to accord them the utmost cooperation, stay unified, and remain focused on our shared national goals. Thank you for your continued prayers, goodwill, and unwavering support.”
Political engagements
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale told Nation that Oburu will be in the U.K for the regular medical check-up as well as political engagements with Kenyans living in London.
“He will be meeting with Kenyans in London who have also invited him so that they can have a conversation regarding our country,” Etale said.
The visit to the U.K comes just a week after Oburu confirmed that he had been discharged from Nairobi Hospital and was recovering at his home.
