The National Police Service (NPS) is continuing to strengthen its capacity to secure Kenya before, during and after the 2027 General Election.
The latest in NPS’s preparations is the high-level workshop that enters its second and last day today at the Argyle Hotel in Nairobi.
Senior police chiefs and key stakeholders are attending the Election Security Planning Workshop, convened by the NPS in collaboration with the Reform Unit domiciled at the Ministry of Interior, and sponsored by the British High Commission and the Electoral Law and Governance Institute for Africa (ELGIA).
The primary purpose of the strategic forum is to thoroughly review the draft Election Security Preparedness Road Map and assess the institutional progress made so far.
Senior officers will review the draft Work Plan alongside its associated priorities, operational needs, and resource requirements across five core thematic areas: Public Order Management; Use of Technology in Policing; Police Accountability; Training and Capacity-Building Activities; and Stakeholder Engagement.
“The National Police Service remains steadfastly committed to proactive planning, robust stakeholder collaboration, and the strict adherence to human rights and police accountability,” the Service says. “This workshop marks a definitive step forward in guaranteeing a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for all Kenyans during the upcoming electoral period.”
Among those attending the workshop are: the APS Director of Security Operations, Mr. Jackson Kangani, SAIG; KPS Director of Operations, Mr. Philip Opiyo, AIG; Director of Reforms, Mr. John Kamau, AIG; Director of ICT, Mr. Samuel Mwilu, AIG; Director of the Internal Affairs Unit, Mr. Paul Mumo, AIG; DCI Director of Operations, Mr. Samson Kiptum, AIG; APS Deputy Director of Logistics, Mr. Gilbert Sumukwo, AIG; among other senior officers.
