Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has come under fire for attending the ongoing Africa Climate Summit despite his sharp criticism against it.
The first-ever Africa Climate Summit happening at KICC, Nairobi was launched by President William Ruto on Monday, September 4.
Senator Olekina disapproved of the venue where the much-anticipated event is being held.
“A Real climate change conference should be held in a DESERT then these talks can stop being talks about nothing!” he began.
Senator Ledama Olekina’s contribution
Olekina reminisced about his experience planting over 20 million trees in Mau Forest five years ago through aerial seeding.
“This is what action on climate change is all about!” he asserted.
The senator showed up during day two of the Africa Climate Summit. He was accompanying Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
Ledama Olekina meets John Kerry
Olekina praised Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry who announced that the United States gov’t would contribute $30 million (KSh4.38 billion) towards climate action in Africa.
“Your speech at the African Climate Summit today was brief and to the point. We need action not talk. The G-20 must own up and support climate change adaptation in Africa,” the politician told Kerry on the sidelines.
Kenyans criticize Olekina
Social media users were quick to react, reminding Olekina about his earlier remarks.
“You Said yesterday Africa Climate Summit should be held in the desert. Is that you Mr Ledama? I thought you wouldn’t attend,” one netizen Brighton Leween challenged him.
Another tweep identified as Rwenji Mute opined, “Mhesh you don’t look like you are in a desert…double speak?”
“Going by what you posted yesterday Is KICC located in a desert,” another social media user Kamunya Muoho criticised.
The Africa Climate Summit comes to a close tomorrow (Wednesday).
