Shock and grief has engulfed a village in Hwange District, northwestern Zimbabwe, after a woman allegedly hanged her six-year-old daughter to death.

Crime Watch Zimbabwe reports that 23-year-old Melody Mwiinde was arrested on Friday, April 25 after she allegedly killed her daughter, who was living with disability, on a tree branch, before dumping her body in a disused hut.

The incident, a police statement says, happened on 23 April 2025 at Mujimba 9, Siabuwa.

“The suspect allegedly kiIIed her daughter, 6, by hanging her with an electrical cable from a tree branch,” the report said.

The suspect allegedly confessed that she kiIIed her own daughter because people were “mocking her for keeping a disabled child who had been disowned by her father.”
