Sonko rescues abandoned expectant mother, vow to stand by her until delivery

Former Nairobi Governor and leader of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), Mike Sonko, has taken in a nine-months-pregnant woman who was allegedly abandoned by both her family and the man responsible for her pregnancy, pledging to support her until she safely delivers her baby.

According to Sonko, the woman was left homeless after being chased away from her cousin’s house at a critical stage of her pregnancy. He said the child’s father had also distanced himself from her, claiming she had not been loyal during their relationship.

“I rescued a woman who is nine months pregnant after she was abandoned and left homeless at the most critical stage of her pregnancy,” Sonko said. “No woman carrying a child should ever have to face such a situation alone.”

The former Governor revealed that his foundation had temporarily taken the expectant mother under its care and was providing her with shelter and other essential support as she prepares to give birth.

“Our priority is to ensure that both mother and baby are safe and well cared for,” he said.

Sonko used the incident to call for greater responsibility among young people, urging them to make informed decisions about parenthood and relationships.

“Let this be a lesson to our young women and men about making responsible decisions. If you are not ready for parenthood, protect yourselves and avoid situations that may lead to unnecessary suffering,” he stated.

He further appealed to society to show compassion towards vulnerable mothers instead of condemning or abandoning them during difficult moments.

“As a society, let us learn to support vulnerable mothers instead of judging, abandoning, or condemning them. Today, we have given this mother hope, and by God’s grace, we will stand with her until she safely delivers her baby,” Sonko said.

The case has sparked discussion on social media about family support systems, parental responsibility, and the challenges faced by expectant mothers who find themselves abandoned during pregnancy.

Sonko concluded by offering prayers for the woman and her unborn child, expressing hope for a safe delivery and a brighter future for both mother and baby.

“Every child deserves to be born into love, care, and dignity,” he said.
