A multi-agency security operation has led to the recovery of ten stolen cattle in Turkana County following a recent stock theft incident reported in Pokot North Sub-County.
In a statement shared on Wednesday, July 1, the National Police Service (NPS) said the recovery followed an intelligence-led operation conducted on June 30 by a coordinated team of security officers.
According to the police, the operation was launched after investigators received credible information on the whereabouts of the stolen animals.
“Following a recent stock theft incident reported in Pokot North Sub-County, a multi-agency security team in Turkana County launched a coordinated, intelligence-led operation and successfully recovered ten head of the stolen livestock,” the NPS said.
The officers tracked the animals to Namakat Village in Kalemngorok Sub-Location, Aroo Sub-County, where the cattle were recovered before being transported to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) Camp in Kainuk.
Police said the recovered livestock will remain at the camp pending identification and handover to their rightful owners.
The security operation is, however, far from over, with officers maintaining an enhanced presence in the area as efforts continue to trace the remaining stolen livestock and arrest those responsible for the theft.
“Security agencies maintain a heightened presence in the area. Active operations are ongoing to recover the remaining stolen livestock and to apprehend the perpetrators behind the theft,” the statement added.
The National Police Service also appealed to members of the public to support the ongoing investigations by sharing any information that could aid the recovery efforts.
“The National Police Service urges members of the public with any information that could assist in the tracking of the remaining livestock or the identification of the suspects to report to the nearest police station,” the agency said.
Police further encouraged the public to use its toll-free reporting channels, including 999, 911, the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline, or WhatsApp, to anonymously provide information that could assist investigators.
