The 2026 Kenya basketball federation premier league finalists have been confirmed and it is the Invisible Nairobi City Thunder vs Kenya Ports Authority after both teams completed 3-0 semifinal sweeps.
Thunder beat Stanbic Shields 88-65 in Game Three at Nyayo Gymnasium, while KPA defeated Equity Dumas 82-56 in Mombasa to book their place in the championship series.
It is the matchup Kenyan basketball has become accustomed to and one that has produced two very different endings for the Dockers.
The Semifinals in Numbers
Thunder opened their series with an 82-65 win over Stanbic, while KPA began with an 87-56 victory over Dumas.
By the end of Game Three, Thunder had outscored Stanbic by 64 points across the three games, an average margin of more than 21 points per game.
KPA’s dominance was even greater, with a 72-point aggregate margin over Dumas—24 points per game.
Across the six semifinal games, not a single contest was decided by fewer than 15 points.
A Rivalry With a Familiar Pattern
The final has been played twice before, with Thunder winning both series.
In 2024, Thunder defeated KPA 2-1, winning 73-70 and 59-50 in Mombasa before sealing their first league title with an emphatic 86-46 victory in Nairobi.
Thunder swept KPA 3-0 the following year. They won the opening two games in Mombasa, 81-47 and 93-79, before completing the sweep with an 80-43 victory in Game Three at Nyayo Gymnasium.
Now the two sides meet again, with Thunder pursuing a third consecutive championship.
The champions went unbeaten in the 2026 regular season, winning all 22 games, and are seeking another title under head coach Brad Ibs. Thunder have also established themselves as Kenya’s representatives on the continental stage, becoming the first Kenyan team to reach the Basketball Africa League Elite 8 in Rwanda two years ago.
KPA Wants Its Crown Back
KPA, however, arrive with a championship pedigree of their own.
The Dockers have won nine league titles the most in the competition’s history with their most recent championships coming in 2022 and 2023. They have finished runners-up to Thunder in each of the past two finals.
Their route to the final this year has been emphatic. KPA scored 271 points across three semifinal games against Dumas and recorded the biggest single-game victory of either semifinal series, a 31-point rout in Game One.
Ending their two-year wait for another championship, however, will require KPA to solve a Thunder side that has dominated this rivalry in recent finals.

The series opens in KPA’s backyard, giving the Dockers home-court advantage to begin the championship battle.
For the third consecutive year, Thunder and KPA will decide the Premier League crown. Thunder are chasing a three-peat; KPA are chasing a return to the top.
Either way, Kenyan basketball has its blockbuster final.
